As the Latino population in the United States continues to grow at an exponential rate, there is an increasing need for mental health and social service agencies to provide culturally competent care to this population. This workshop will provide strategies for assessing, engaging and treating Latinos. Emphasis will be given to the importance of language, differentiating ethnic identity among Latinos, social location, the effects of immigration, attitudes about mental health and help seeking patterns.
